Metacam 20mg/ml Solution It works by preventing the body from synthesizing prostaglandins that relieve pain and cause inflammatory processes and pyrogens (substances that cause fever). To improve appetite and weight when administered at the start of diarrhea, in combination with oral rehydration therapy, calves older than one week. Metacam 20mg/ml Solution is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class that works by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis and thereby exhibits anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic properties. Meloxicam also has anti-endotoxic properties because it has been shown to inhibit the production of thromboxane B2 induced by the administration of E. coli endotoxin to calves. Treatment of cows with meloxicam prior to abdominal surgery reduces postoperative pain. The anti-inflammatory effect alone does not provide adequate pain relief during surgery. It is recommended to achieve adequate pain relief during concomitant medication with a suitable analgesic.

For use in diarrhea, in combination with oral rehydration therapy, to reduce clinical signs in calves of over one week of age and young non-lactating cattle. For adjunctive therapy in the treatment of acute mastitis, in combination with antibiotic therapy.
